How to disable whatsapp file auto save

You can disable WhatsApp from automatically saving files to your phone’s gallery by adjusting the global or individual chat settings. 

For all chats on Android

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Chats.
  3. Turn off the toggle for Media visibility.
    This will stop new downloads from appearing in your phone’s gallery, but previously saved media will remain.     

For specific chats on Android

  1. Open the individual or group chat you want to change.
  2. Tap the contact or group name at the top.
  3. Select Media visibility.
  4. Choose No and tap OK. 

For all chats on iPhone

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap Settings at the bottom.
  2. Select Chats.
  3. Turn off the toggle for Save to Camera Roll. 

For specific chats on iPhone

  1. Open the individual or group chat you want to change.
  2. Tap the contact or group name at the top.
  3. Select Save to Camera Roll.
  4. Choose Never

You can also prevent WhatsApp from automatically downloading media files to your phone, which helps conserve mobile data and storage.
